The project was initiated jointly by the administrative committee of Kunming National High-tech Industrial Development Zone and the Institute of Medical Biology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Once completed, it was intended to expand vaccine production capacity and improve supply. The base also supports Kunming High-tech Zone's ambition to develop an internationally competitive and distinctive biopharmaceutical innovation centre, strengthening the city's broader health industry.
