Hantan Double-Island Bridge crosses the Tuojiang River approximately 600 metres upstream from Jintang County. The east–west route is 1,641 metres long and uses a six-lane steel box-girder structure. The east and west approach bridges use variable-width, six-lane prestressed cast-in-place concrete box girders, ranging from 38 to 32.5 metres.
The main bridge is 860 metres long and comprises two tower columns and three cross-beams. Its main span crosses the river island over 430 metres, with a 38-metre deck, 137-metre towers and 68 pairs of stay cables. The reinforced-concrete towers use diamond-shaped inclined lower sections. It was described as Chengdu's largest-span twin-tower, twin-cable-plane steel box-girder cable-stayed bridge under construction at the time.
The bridge provides a direct connection from the county area to Jintang Avenue, links Zhaozhen and Qixian subdistricts, improves the urban road network and raises the level of infrastructure services in Jintang County.
