It is the permanent venue of the Western China International Expo, a host site for exhibitions and events, and a platform for high-end business activities.
The project brings together large exhibitions, conferences, festivals, sporting events and performances. Developed by Sichuan Province and Chengdu, it is positioned as a leading international exhibition and convention project in western China, supporting the growth of the regional exhibition industry and international cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Western China International Expo City received the National Quality Engineering Award for 2020–2021 on 6 December 2021 and the China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award in January 2022.
